Poetry Picnic

Bring a poem. Leave with a poem.

Poetry Picnic is a community poetry exchange created by Poem Stellium.

Rather than attending simply to listen, every participant becomes part of the experience by bringing one original poem to gift to someone else.

Whether your poem is typed, handwritten, illustrated, folded into a letter, presented in an envelope, mounted on card, framed, or created in your own unique style, each piece is welcomed as a personal expression of creativity.

During the event, all poems are displayed together before the exchange begins. Participants are invited to browse, connect with one another, enjoy refreshments, and take part in optional poetry readings.

At the designated exchange, each attendee selects one poem to take home.

Every person arrives with a poem.

Every person leaves with a poem.

There are no competitions, rankings, or winners. Poetry Picnic exists to encourage creativity, conversation, community, and the sharing of words in a thoughtful and memorable way.

How it works

• Bring one original poem.
• Present your poem however you wish.
• Place your poem on the display table when you arrive.
• Spend time meeting other writers, reading poems, and enjoying refreshments.
• Take part in the optional poetry readings.
• When the Poetry Exchange begins, choose one poem to take home.

Presentation

Your poem can be presented in any creative format. This might include:

• Printed.
• Handwritten.
• Illustrated.
• Mounted on card.
• Folded into a letter.
• Sealed inside an envelope.
• Framed.
• Decorated or designed in your own style.

There is no required format. We simply encourage you to create something you would be happy to gift to another person.

Who can attend?

Poetry Picnic welcomes poets of all backgrounds and experience levels.

Whether you’ve been writing for years or have written your very first poem, you’re invited to be part of the exchange.

Refreshments

Light refreshments may be available depending on the venue and event.
