The Diaspora Room

The Diaspora Room is a dedicated writing space within Poem Stellium for Black African and Caribbean voices across the diaspora.

Created in response to the ongoing need for spaces where Black stories, experiences, and perspectives can be explored openly, The Diaspora Room exists to support expression, reflection, community, and creativity through writing.

While Black history is often confined to a single month, our stories do not begin and end there.

The Diaspora Room was created as an ongoing commitment to Black voices throughout the year.

Through writing sessions, reflective discussions, creative opportunities, competitions, and community-led initiatives, participants are invited to explore identity, heritage, history, mental health, belonging, joy, resilience, and lived experience.

Future sessions may explore topics such as:

• Cultural identity and belonging
• Family histories and generational experiences
• Black mental health and wellbeing
• Creativity as a tool for expression and healing
• Historical reflection through writing
• Community storytelling and collective memory

The Diaspora Room welcomes Black African and Caribbean voices from across the world. Whether you are based in the UK, Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, North America, South America, or elsewhere, this space was created with the global diaspora in mind.

Writing sessions are planned for 2027 as Poem Stellium develops partnerships, funding opportunities, and a network of facilitators and mental health professionals who share the vision of creating meaningful, culturally informed spaces for Black communities.

This is not a seasonal initiative.

It is an ongoing commitment to creating room for Black voices to be heard, explored, celebrated, and supported.
